Climate and region of Da Nang
Da Nang is located on Vietnam’s central coast, between Hoi An and Hue, meaning it shares the same seasonal weather patterns as these two destinations. The climate here is divided into two main seasons:
- Dry season: February to August – Characterized by warm temperatures, little rainfall, and mostly sunny days. March is still in the early part of the dry season, meaning there are fewer rainy days but still some cool mornings and breezy afternoons compared to the peak summer months.
- Rainy season: September to January – Marked by frequent rains, high humidity, and occasional storms, particularly from October to December. By March, rain is much less common, though some occasional cloudy days can still occur.
Travel Tip: If you’re visiting multiple regions in Vietnam, be aware that weather conditions vary greatly across the country in March. While Da Nang and Hoi An are transitioning into warm, dry weather, northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sapa) is still cool, with occasional misty days, and southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc) is already hot and fully in its dry season. Be sure to pack accordingly for the different climates.
Weather in Da Nang in March
March in Da Nang marks the early dry season, meaning rain is minimal, and the weather is gradually warming up. The average temperatures range from 21°C to 28°C (70°F – 82°F), making it noticeably warmer than January and February. While midday temperatures can feel pleasantly warm, mornings and evenings are still a bit cool, especially in the first half of the month. Cloudy days still occur occasionally, but the overall trend is toward sunnier and drier conditions as the month progresses. Humidity starts to decrease, making it feel much more comfortable than in the wet months.
Although the weather is improving, it’s not quite peak beach season yet. Sea conditions are calmer compared to previous months, but strong breezes and occasional choppy waves can still be present, particularly early in March. Later in the month, the temperatures rise, the sun comes out more often, and beach conditions start to become more inviting. Compared to northern Vietnam, where March can still be misty and cool, Da Nang offers far better weather for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
Beach holiday in Da Nang in March
March is a promising but not yet perfect month for a beach holiday in Da Nang. The weather is improving significantly, with very little rain, but cool mornings and late afternoons—especially in the first half of the month—can make the beach feel less inviting for full-day sunbathing. The wind is still present, which can bring occasional waves and choppy sea conditions, though it’s much calmer than in previous months.

Later in the month, conditions become much better, with warmer temperatures and more sunshine, making it a decent time for a beach visit. While it’s not quite peak beach season yet, it’s good enough for casual beach time, especially on calm, sunny days. However, if you’re looking for guaranteed hot beach weather, South Vietnam (Phu Quoc, Mui Ne) is still the better choice at this time of year.
Is Da Nang worth visiting in March?
Da Nang in March is a great choice for sightseeing and outdoor activities, and while not yet at its peak for the beach, it’s still a good month to visit overall. The weather is mostly dry, and humidity levels are comfortable, making it a great time to explore key attractions like Hoi An and Ba Na Hills (Golden Bridge). By March, Hai Van Pass becomes a fantastic drive again, offering clear views of the coastline without the heavy rains of previous months.
In terms of crowds, March is still considered a shoulder season month, meaning fewer tourists compared to the peak summer months (June–August). This makes it a good time to visit before prices rise and beach resorts start filling up. While it may not be the absolute best beach month, March offers a well-balanced mix of pleasant weather, fewer tourists, and great sightseeing opportunities, making it a solid choice for a trip to Da Nang.

Travel tips for March in Da Nang
What to bring
- Light layers (jacket or sweater) – While March is getting warmer, mornings and evenings can still feel cool, especially in early March. A light layer is useful when exploring the coastline or taking a motorbike ride.
- Sunscreen (SPF 50+) – The sun is getting stronger, and long outdoor activities like driving the Hai Van Pass or visiting Cham Island require good sun protection. Sunscreen options in Vietnam are limited and expensive, so bring your own.
- Hat & sunglasses – With increasing sunshine and longer dry spells, these will keep you comfortable when visiting outdoor sites like My Son Sanctuary or Ba Na Hills.
- Mosquito repellent – While less of an issue than in the rainy season, some areas near water still have mosquitoes, especially in the evenings.
- Light rain poncho or umbrella – Rain is less frequent in March, but occasional light showers can still happen, particularly earlier in the month.
Accommodation availability
March is still shoulder season, meaning hotels are not yet fully booked like in peak summer, but prices start rising compared to previous months. It’s a good balance between affordability and improving weather.
- Beach resorts start getting busier – Since the weather is improving for the beach, more tourists start staying at beachside resorts, but it’s still easy to find good deals before the high season starts in April.
- Hoi An vs. Da Nang – If your trip isn’t focused on the beach, Hoi An can be a great alternative. With better nightlife, historic charm, and plenty of activities, it offers more variety for travelers who aren’t solely visiting for Da Nang’s coastline.
- No urgent need to book far in advance – Unlike in peak summer (June–August) when accommodations fill up quickly, March still offers plenty of availability, especially if you book a few weeks ahead.
