Climate and region of Con Dao
Con Dao is a remote island group in southern Vietnam, located about 230 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. The islands are known for their secluded beaches, marine biodiversity, and national park, making them a unique destination for nature lovers.
The climate in Con Dao is tropical monsoon, divided into two main seasons:
- Dry season (November to April): Characterized by little rainfall, sunny skies, and calm seas, making it the best time for outdoor activities.
- Rainy season (May to October): Features higher humidity, regular rain showers, and cloudier skies, though the sea remains relatively calm compared to other parts of southern Vietnam.
July is in the middle of the rainy season, meaning visitors should expect daily rain showers, mostly in the afternoons or evenings.
Weather in Con Dao in July
July is hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 26°C to 31°C (79°F to 88°F). The high humidity makes it feel warmer, and frequent rain showers occur, typically in the afternoons or evenings.
While these showers are heavy, they are often short-lived, lasting 30 minutes to an hour before clearing up. The mornings may still have some sunshine, but overcast skies are common later in the day.
The sea remains relatively calm, meaning diving and boat trips are still possible, although visibility can vary depending on recent rainfall.
Beach holiday or not?
No, July is not an ideal month for a beach holiday in Con Dao. While the island’s beaches remain beautiful, the frequent rain and cloudy skies mean that sunbathing and swimming may not be enjoyable every day.
Travel tip: If you’re looking for better beach weather in Vietnam during July, consider heading to Vietnam’s central coast, where destinations like Hoi An, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Quy Nhon experience dry, sunny conditions at this time of year.

Diving in Con Dao in July
Diving is one of the main reasons people visit Con Dao, and July is still within the high season for diving (March to September). Even though it’s the rainy season, the sea remains calm, and underwater visibility is generally good (15–20 meters).
Divers can expect to see healthy coral reefs, large schools of tropical fish, rays, and sea turtles, especially at sites like Bay Canh Island, Hon Tai, and Tre Lon Island. Rain does not significantly impact diving conditions, but visibility may decrease slightly after a heavy downpour.
