Itinerary

After breakfast in Cao Bang City, begin your journey with a drive through Ma Phuc Pass toward the countryside. Stop at Phja Thap, Phúc Sen, and Pac Rang — small villages known for traditional incense-making, handmade paper, and blacksmithing. These craft traditions are deeply rooted in the culture of the Nùng ethnic group.

Continue to Nguom Ngao Cave, a vast underground world of spectacular limestone formations. Then head to Ban Gioc Waterfall — one of Vietnam’s most iconic natural sights — and take time to admire its powerful beauty right on the China border.

Check in at a homestay in Khuoi Ky, a unique village of stone stilt houses near the waterfall. Share a local dinner with your host family and enjoy the calm atmosphere.

After breakfast, head into Phong Nam Valley — a quiet and almost tourist-free area surrounded by towering limestone mountains and patchwork rice fields. It's one of the most scenic, untouched spots in the entire region.

Early Afternoon :
Angel Eye Mountain

Next, visit Angel Eye Mountain (Núi Thủng), a surreal rock formation with a circular hole through its center. It’s one of the visual highlights of the Cao Bang Loop and part of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark.

Travel onward to Pac Bo, where Ho Chi Minh once lived during Vietnam’s revolution. Walk beside the emerald Lê Nin River and visit Pac Bo Cave, a simple site with deep historical meaning.

Stay overnight at a nearby homestay. Dinner and breakfast will be provided by your local hosts.

Depart after breakfast and drive into the mountains, crossing the peaceful Na Tenh Pass and passing remote villages and forested hills.

Continue over Mẻ Pia Pass (also called Khau Cốc Chà), a dramatic zigzagging road carved into the mountainside. Stop to admire the views and descend into the quiet Xuan Truong Valley.

Reach the riverside town of Bao Lac, where you’ll stay in a local homestay or small hotel. This area is home to the Lô Lô ethnic group and offers a warm welcome and peaceful night.

Visit Khuoi Khon Village, where the Lô Lô people live in traditional stilt houses and maintain their unique customs. It’s a rare chance to interact with one of Vietnam’s smallest and most distinct ethnic groups.

Continue through the mountains and descend toward Ba Be National Park. In the late afternoon, board a boat and enjoy a peaceful cruise across the lake — surrounded by limestone cliffs, jungle, and tranquil water.

Stay overnight at a family-run homestay on the lake’s edge. Enjoy a fresh home-cooked dinner and rest in one of Vietnam’s most peaceful nature settings.

Relax in the peaceful surroundings of Ba Be Lake, take a short walk, or enjoy a quiet morning with views of the water and mountains.

After an early lunch, board a comfortable limousine bus back to Hanoi, ending your 5-day Cao Bang and Ba Be adventure with unforgettable memories of northern Vietnam’s landscapes, culture, and hidden beauty.

The motorbike option requires comfort riding on the back for multiple hours. If you have concerns, we can customize the itinerary or adjust the pace to suit your needs.
  • This tour is available year-round. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most comfortable weather. Summer brings lush green landscapes and vibrant scenery, while winter is cooler and dry — ideal for mountain views.
  • Wifi is available at most homestays and guesthouses, but connections may be weak or unavailable in more remote villages. A Vietnamese SIM card with mobile data is recommended, though signal coverage in some mountain areas may be limited.
  • For car tours, most luggage can be brought along. For motorbike tours, pack light and consider leaving larger suitcases in Hanoi. We can help arrange luggage storage or transfers if needed.
  • Vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-specific meals can be arranged. Please inform us in advance so that hosts can prepare suitable dishes.
  • This tour operates in all seasons. Expect cooler mornings and evenings in the mountains, especially in winter. During the rainy season (mainly summer), occasional showers are possible — bring a light waterproof jacket just in case.
  • Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and layered clothing are all recommended. If joining by motorbike, bring sunglasses and a scarf or face covering.

  • The Cao Bang Loop & Ba Be Lake tour is available year-round as a private tour by motorbike (with easy rider) or by car. Advance booking is recommended to secure the best accommodations.

FAQ

Should I choose the motorbike or car option?

Both options follow the same route. The motorbike version is more immersive and adventurous, especially with scenic mountain roads, while the car offers more comfort and protection from the weather — ideal if you prefer a relaxed ride. The choice depends on your travel style.

Can I drive the motorbike myself on this tour?

Yes, but only if you have a valid motorbike license from your home country and an International Driving Permit (IDP). If you don’t meet these requirements, you’ll ride as a passenger with one of our experienced easy riders. Contact us if you’d like to self-drive — we’ll check your documents first.

What are the accommodations like during this tour?

You’ll stay in a mix of ethnic homestays and small guesthouses. They are often simple but clean and well-reviewed. Most offer shared facilities, but we can arrange more private or upgraded options if requested in advance.

What happens if it rains during the tour?

Light rain won’t affect the tour, and we’ll provide rain ponchos if needed. In the motorbike version, we adjust the pace and schedule to keep it safe and comfortable. For heavy storms or road issues, we’ll offer a safe alternative or reroute as necessary.

Is this tour physically demanding?

No, it’s suitable for anyone with a basic level of fitness. Walks and hikes are short and optional, and we can adjust the pace or skip certain stops if needed.
