Getting to Ha Giang

Option 1: Homestay package + 1 day [Most recommended]

Depart from Hanoi in the early morning the day before you want to start the Ha Giang loop (Day 0). Transfer from your hotel in Hanoi to Ha Giang by luxury limousine minibus.

Arrive in the afternoon in Ha Giang. Stay in a local authentic minority village just outside town. You have the afternoon to explore the beautiful village, including rice fields around. The village belongs to the Thai minority, who live in houses on stilts. You will spend the night in a homestay in this village where you will be picked up the next day to start the Ha Giang loop tour.

Option 2: VIP Limousine Sleeper Bus

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter (8:00–8:30 PM) and travel overnight in a VIP sleeper limousine bus, which offers extra-wide seats and added comfort compared to standard sleeper buses. You’ll arrive around 3:00 AM and check into a private room at a hotel in Ha Giang City for a rest before your tour.

Option 3: Custom Travel Arrangements

If you’re coming from other destinations like Sapa, there are also direct buses to Ha Giang available. In addition, we can arrange a private car or van from any location in Vietnam to Ha Giang. For these flexible travel options, just contact us in advance—we’re happy to help organize the most convenient route for you.

Itinerary

At around 7:30 PM, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter and board a VIP sleeper bus headed to Ha Giang. The journey takes around 6–7 hours, with one or two short breaks along the way for coffee or toilet stops. You'll arrive at our office in Ha Giang late at night and get a simple room to rest until the next morning.

Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast

After breakfast, begin your journey on the Ha Giang Loop. Your driver takes you through rugged landscapes, with the first major stop at Heaven’s Gate — sitting 1,500 meters above sea level. You’ll have time to take in the panoramic views and see the iconic Twin Mountains of Quan Ba.

Continue along the winding roads to Yen Minh, a quiet town nestled in the mountains. Here you’ll stop for lunch at a local eatery before continuing deeper into the loop.

En route to Dong Van, make a stop at the historic Vuong Palace — a former Hmong royal residence surrounded by stone walls and traditional architecture. It’s a fascinating place to learn about the region’s past.

Reach Dong Van around 5:00 PM. After checking in to your homestay, you’ll have time to relax, enjoy dinner, and explore the peaceful streets of the Old Quarter.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

If it’s Sunday, you’ll get the chance to visit the colorful Dong Van market, where many ethnic groups gather in traditional dress to sell local goods. After breakfast, hit the road toward one of Vietnam’s most scenic drives.

Cruise along the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, with its dramatic cliffs and jaw-dropping views over the emerald Nho Que River far below. You’ll have chances to stop for photos or just take in the scenery. Optionally, you can join a short boat trip on the Nho Que River (not included in the tour price).

After the pass, stretch your legs with a guided walk to a nearby Hmong village. This short hike gives you a glimpse into daily life in the mountains and sweeping views over the “Happiness Road.”

Arrive in Meo Vac around 5:00 PM. After dinner at the homestay, enjoy a quiet evening or explore the small town on your own.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Hit the road again, heading southeast through Mau Due and into one of the most remote and scenic parts of Ha Giang. This stretch is packed with terraced rice fields and hilltop views.

Early Afternoon :
Arrive in Du Gia

Get to Du Gia village by early afternoon and check in with a friendly Tay family at the homestay. Enjoy a local lunch before heading out again.

Join your guide for a 2–3 hour walk through nearby villages and rice terraces. If the weather allows, you’ll cool off with a swim at the stunning Du Gia waterfall — a perfect place to relax and take photos.

Spend the evening with your host family, enjoy a home-cooked dinner, and settle in for a peaceful night surrounded by mountains.

Start the day with a gentle walk around Du Gia’s rice fields and pay a visit to a Hmong household to learn more about local customs.

Drive back to Ha Giang city, arriving around 4:00 PM. You’ll have some time to rest or grab a quick bite before the next leg of your journey.

Board a comfortable limousine bus back to Hanoi around 4:30–5:00 PM. Expect to arrive in the Old Quarter by 10:00 PM. If you’re traveling on a weekend, note that drop-off might be at the nearest accessible street due to local traffic restrictions.

  • Standard car options are always available. However, both modern jeeps and old military jeeps have limited availability. After booking, we’ll confirm jeep availability within a few working hours. If a jeep is not available, you’ll have the option to change dates, switch to a car with a partial refund, or cancel for a full refund. You can also contact us before booking to check jeep availability. More details can be found in the Tour Information section.
  • The Ha Giang Loop by car or jeep is safe, with well-paved roads and guard rails on higher mountain passes. Our local drivers are highly experienced and take great care to drive at a relaxed pace that allows you to enjoy the scenery safely.
  • Traveling by car or modern jeep, there’s plenty of space for backpacks and small suitcases. If you choose the old military jeep, space is more limited, especially for three passengers—so we recommend leaving bulky luggage at our Ha Giang office or your hotel in Hanoi.
  • This tour operates in all seasons, including light rain. Open jeeps are equipped with a roof cover for rainy conditions, and ponchos are provided in the military jeep, which has open sides. In the rare case of a typhoon or extreme weather, the tour may be rescheduled or canceled with a full refund.
  • This tour is enjoyable year-round, but spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are especially pleasant for traveling by car or jeep, with comfortable temperatures and clear skies. In winter, car travel remains very comfortable, and the landscapes are peaceful and dry. Summer brings more greenery and dramatic skies, with brief afternoon showers—perfect for early starts and flexible stops.
  • We recommend comfortable clothing and sturdy walking shoes, plus a light jacket for higher altitudes where it can get chilly—especially in winter. For open jeeps, bring layers to adapt to changing temperatures and a windbreaker for breezier sections of the route.
  • We can arrange vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-specific meals upon request. Please let us know your dietary needs when booking so we can accommodate them properly during the tour.
  • Bring your passport, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, insect repellent, phone with internet access, power bank, camera, and personal medication. In cooler months, pack warm layers, gloves, and face protection for wind. We also recommend carrying around 1,000,000–1,500,000 VND per person in cash for personal expenses.

FAQ

Should I choose a car or a jeep for this tour?

It depends on your travel style. The car (SUV) is ideal for comfort, more space, and better weather protection—especially in cooler months or for longer rides. The modern jeep offers an open-air experience with great visibility and a more adventurous feel. The old military jeep is a fun, vintage option but has more limited luggage space and is partially open to the elements.

How is this different from the motorbike version of the Ha Giang Loop?

The motorbike tour is more immersive and suited to adventure travelers who want to feel closer to the road. The car or jeep tour is more comfortable, safer in changing weather, and better suited for families, couples, or travelers who prefer a more relaxed pace without compromising on scenery or experience.

Is the Ha Giang Loop by car or jeep safe?

Yes. The roads are mostly paved and in good condition, with guard rails on steep sections. Our drivers are local experts who drive carefully and know the route extremely well. You’ll travel at a safe, scenic pace with frequent stops.

What happens if it rains during the tour?

The tour runs in all weather. Cars are fully covered, and modern jeeps have roof covers that can be used when it rains. Military jeeps come with ponchos, but the sides are open—so we recommend checking the forecast if you’re booking that option. Rain is usually short and passes quickly in this region.

Can I store large luggage during the tour?

Yes. If you’re bringing large or bulky suitcases, we recommend storing them at our office in Ha Giang or at your hotel in Hanoi. Cars and modern jeeps have good space, but the military jeep has limited storage, especially if you’re traveling with three people.

Can I request specific accommodations during the trip?

We handpick local accommodations based on comfort and consistent positive feedback. If you have specific preferences or requirements, let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to customize the stay for you.

What kind of food is included on this tour?

All meals during the loop are included, usually served at local restaurants or homestays. The meals include Vietnamese dishes, and we can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or dietary restrictions—just let us know ahead of time.

Are jeeps always available for the tour?

Jeeps are limited in availability, especially during the high season. After booking, we’ll confirm within a few hours whether your preferred jeep is available. If not, we’ll offer options: switch dates, change to a car (with a partial refund), or cancel for a 100% refund. If you want to be sure, contact us before booking to check jeep availability.

Should I choose the 3-day or 4-day car/jeep tour?

The 3-day tour takes you through the core highlights of the Ha Giang Loop, including iconic places like Ma Pi Leng Pass and the Hmong King’s Palace. The 4-day tour is an extended route that covers everything in the 3-day version, plus lesser-visited areas such as Du Gia and Lung Tam village. It’s perfect if you want a deeper, more relaxed journey with extra time for local experiences and nature stops.
