Getting to Ha Giang

Option 1: Homestay package + 1 day [Most recommended]

Depart from Hanoi in the early morning the day before you want to start the Ha Giang loop (Day 0). Transfer from your hotel in Hanoi to Ha Giang by luxury limousine minibus.

Arrive in the afternoon in Ha Giang. Stay in a local authentic minority village just outside town. You have the afternoon to explore the beautiful village, including rice fields around. The village belongs to the Thai minority, who live in houses on stilts. You will spend the night in a homestay in this village where you will be picked up the next day to start the Ha Giang loop tour.

Option 2: VIP Limousine Sleeper Bus

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter (8:00–8:30 PM) and travel overnight in a VIP sleeper limousine bus, which offers extra-wide seats and added comfort compared to standard sleeper buses. You’ll arrive around 3:00 AM and check into a private room at a hotel in Ha Giang City for a rest before your tour.

Option 3: Custom Travel Arrangements

If you’re coming from other destinations like Sapa, there are also direct buses to Ha Giang available. In addition, we can arrange a private car or van from any location in Vietnam to Ha Giang. For these flexible travel options, just contact us in advance—we’re happy to help organize the most convenient route for you.

Itinerary

Morning :

After breakfast and a short briefing with your guide, your Ha Giang Loop tour by car or jeep kicks off. You’ll head north from Ha Giang City, quickly climbing into the mountains of the Dong Van Karst Plateau.

Your first stop is Heaven’s Gate, perched at 1,500 meters with stunning views over the limestone peaks. Not far from here is the Twin Mountains of Quan Ba, perfectly shaped hills surrounded by fields—this photogenic site is steeped in legend.

A little later, you’ll take a peaceful boat trip on the river, offering a refreshing change of pace and a great photo opportunity before continuing your drive.

Afternoon :

Lunch is served in Yen Minh, a small town nestled between green hills. The road after lunch winds higher into the mountains, through Tham Ma Pass, a serpentine road once used to test the strength of local horses.

Next, pass through Sung La Valley, known for its picturesque stone houses and traditional village scenes. You’ll stop to visit one of these villages—an area once featured in a popular Vietnamese film.

As you continue, the Chin Khoanh Pass brings dramatic bends and even more stunning views. Your last stop of the day is the Hmong King’s Palace (Vuong Palace), a fortress-like wooden mansion that once belonged to a local tribal leader.

Arrive in Dong Van in the late afternoon. After checking in to your hotel or homestay, you’ll have time to explore the Old Quarter, a charming area with old stone buildings and cozy cafés.

Lunch, Breakfast, Dinner
Morning :

If today is a Sunday, your day starts with a visit to the lively Dong Van market, where ethnic minority groups gather from surrounding villages to trade food, livestock, and traditional clothing.

You then have the option to take a detour to Lung Cu Flag Tower, marking the northernmost point of Vietnam. The climb to the tower offers panoramic views across the Chinese border.

After that, continue your Ha Giang Loop tour by car or jeep toward Ma Pi Leng Pass, the most famous section of the entire route. The steep cliffs and deep canyons here are some of the most dramatic in all of Vietnam. You’ll have several photo stops along the way, so you can fully take in this legendary stretch.

Afternoon :

There’s time for a short hike along the Sky Path, a ridge trail with incredible views over the Nho Que River far below. This walk offers some of the best panoramic shots of the loop.

You can also choose to join a boat ride on the Nho Que River (optional), winding through steep cliffs and turquoise waters—one of the most scenic and relaxing parts of the trip.

Your day ends at the Ha Giang Mountain View Lodge by Local Vietnam, located in a quiet mountain area. It’s a peaceful place to enjoy dinner and rest after a full day of adventure.

Morning :

After breakfast, begin your return journey toward Ha Giang, taking a different route through more rural and less-traveled parts of the loop. Drive through Mau Due, a beautiful region known for its wide valleys and layered terraced rice fields, especially vibrant during planting or harvest seasons.

Next, stop at the Lung Ho viewpoint, a lesser-known gem with panoramic views of cone-shaped limestone mountains stretching into the distance.

Afternoon :

Later, visit Lung Tam village, where Hmong artisans still weave and dye traditional textiles by hand. It’s a chance to see age-old techniques passed down for generations.

Your final stop is Quan Ba, where you’ll have lunch and admire the Fairy Mountains—two rounded limestone hills standing alone in the valley. After crossing Sky Gate again and descending via the Bac Sum Pass, you’ll arrive back in Ha Giang City by late afternoon, marking the end of your Ha Giang Loop tour by car or open jeep.

After freshening up in Ha Giang City, you’ll board a comfortable limousine bus for your journey back to Hanoi.

  • All accommodation
  • All meals
  • A car with private driver
  • Transfers between Hanoi and Ha Giang (2 options)
  • Drinks
  • Boat trip over the Nho Que Rive(Optional)
  • Standard car options are always available. However, both jeep options (modern and military) are limited and subject to availability. After booking, we’ll confirm jeep availability within a few working hours. If your preferred jeep is unavailable, you can switch dates, change to the car option (with a partial refund), or cancel for a 100% refund. To check availability in advance, feel free to contact us before booking. More practical information is provided in the Tour Information section.
  • The Ha Giang Loop tour by car or jeep is safe, with well-maintained paved roads and guard rails in higher sections. All vehicles are driven by experienced local drivers who know the terrain well. Helmets are not needed in the cars or jeeps.
  • There’s plenty of space for luggage in standard cars and modern jeeps. The old military jeep has limited space, especially for groups of 3 passengers. In that case, it's best to leave bulky luggage at our office in Ha Giang or at your hotel in Hanoi.
  • This tour can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-specific meal requests. Please let us know in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.
  • This tour operates rain or shine. Open jeeps have a retractable roof, and ponchos are provided in old military jeeps, which are partially open on the sides. In the rare event of a typhoon, we will cancel the tour and issue a full refund. Ha Giang is very rarely affected by typhoons.
  • This tour is enjoyable all year, but spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most pleasant weather—especially ideal for traveling by open jeep. In summer, expect warmer temperatures and occasional rain showers, mostly in the late afternoon. In winter, traveling by car is comfortable, though open jeep rides can feel colder in the higher altitudes.
  • Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. If you're traveling by open jeep in cooler months (Nov–Mar), pack some warm layers, gloves, and a mask for wind protection. A rain jacket is useful year-round.
  • Bring your passport, swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, mosquito repellent, camera, charged phone with internet, power bank, and any personal medication. In colder months, add warm clothing, cosmetics for dry weather, gloves, and a face mask. We also recommend carrying 1,000,000–1,500,000 VND per person in cash for personal expenses.

FAQ

Is the tour private or in a group?

This is a private tour, so you'll have your own vehicle, driver, and guide. You won’t be combined with other travelers unless requested.

Should I choose a car or a jeep for this tour?

Both are great options! The car (SUV) offers more comfort and is ideal in cold or wet weather, especially for families or those who prefer a smoother ride. The jeep (either modern or military style) gives a more adventurous and open-air experience—perfect for those who want to feel closer to the landscape. Keep in mind that jeeps have limited space and can feel colder in the mountains.

How does the car or jeep tour compare to the motorbike (Easy Rider) option?

The motorbike (Easy Rider) version is more immersive and thrilling, with you riding on the back of an experienced driver’s bike. It’s best for adventurous travelers who are comfortable with being exposed to the elements. The car/jeep tour offers a safer, more relaxed alternative—ideal for couples, families, or anyone wanting to enjoy the views without the physical challenge of riding a motorbike.

What happens if it rains during the tour?

The tour runs rain or shine. Cars offer full protection from the weather. Modern jeeps have a retractable roof, and old military jeeps include rain covers and ponchos. In the rare case of extreme weather (like a typhoon), we may cancel the tour and issue a full refund.

Can I bring my luggage on the tour?

Yes, you can bring luggage. Cars and modern jeeps have plenty of space. The old military jeep has limited room—especially with 3 passengers—so large bags are best left at our Ha Giang office or your hotel in Hanoi.

Are vegetarian or allergy-friendly meals available?

Yes, we can arrange vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-specific meals. Please inform us in advance so we can make the necessary preparations.

How can I check availability for the jeep options?

Availability for jeeps is limited, so we recommend contacting us before booking if you want to secure a jeep. If you book without checking and the jeep is unavailable, we’ll contact you within a few working hours to offer a full refund, a date change, or a switch to the car option with a partial refund.

Can I customize the tour or add extra days?

Absolutely! You can add extra days, visit Thon Tha village, include Dong Van trekking, or even combine the tour with Sapa. Contact us to personalize your itinerary.

Are children allowed on this tour?

Yes, the Ha Giang Loop by car is suitable for families with children. The route is safe, and we can make adjustments for comfort and pace.
