Getting to Ha Giang
Option 1: Homestay package + 1 day [Most recommended]
Depart from Hanoi in the early morning the day before you want to start the Ha Giang loop (Day 0). Transfer from your hotel in Hanoi to Ha Giang by luxury limousine minibus.
Arrive in the afternoon in Ha Giang. Stay in a local authentic minority village just outside town. You have the afternoon to explore the beautiful village, including rice fields around. The village belongs to the Thai minority, who live in houses on stilts. You will spend the night in a homestay in this village where you will be picked up the next day to start the Ha Giang loop tour.
Option 2: VIP Limousine Sleeper Bus
You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter (8:00–8:30 PM) and travel overnight in a VIP sleeper limousine bus, which offers extra-wide seats and added comfort compared to standard sleeper buses. You’ll arrive around 3:00 AM and check into a private room at a hotel in Ha Giang City for a rest before your tour.
Option 3: Custom Travel Arrangements
If you’re coming from other destinations like Sapa, there are also direct buses to Ha Giang available. In addition, we can arrange a private car or van from any location in Vietnam to Ha Giang. For these flexible travel options, just contact us in advance—we’re happy to help organize the most convenient route for you.
Itinerary
Your Easy Rider motorbike adventure kicks off after breakfast with a short safety briefing and intro to your guide—your driver, local expert, and travel buddy for the next few days. Once the engines start, you’ll feel the excitement build as you leave the city behind and ride into the heart of the mountains.
The first part of the loop takes you through winding roads and steep climbs toward Heaven’s Gate, where you’ll stop for panoramic views over deep valleys and sharp limestone peaks—an ideal spot to snap your first epic photos. From there, ride past the iconic Twin Mountains of Quan Ba, shaped like two perfect domes rising out of the countryside.
A short while later, you’ll stop for a local boat trip, offering a peaceful change of pace as you float through quiet mountain scenery before getting back on the road. Just before lunch, you’ll pass villages tucked between green hills—an early glimpse of the local life that makes Ha Giang so memorable.
After lunch in Yen Minh, the ride gets even more scenic. The road carves through towering mountains, with dramatic switchbacks and some of the best roadside viewpoints in northern Vietnam. Your Easy Rider knows all the best stops for photos, including Tham Ma Pass, famous for its zigzag bends and wild landscape.
Next, you'll pass through Sung La Valley, where old stone houses and blooming fields offer a slower glimpse of highland life. You’ll make a stop at the Hmong King’s Palace, an atmospheric wooden building rich with history from when the Hmong ruled these highlands.
By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Dong Van, a remote mountain town near the Chinese border. After checking in to your stay (homestay or hotel depending on availability), you’ll have time to explore the small Old Quarter and grab dinner. If you’re lucky, the town square might come alive with music and a few local beers.
If it’s a Sunday, you’re in for a real cultural moment—the Dong Van minority market is in full swing. It’s not a tourist show but a true local event, where people from different ethnic groups hike or ride in from the mountains to trade handmade goods, animals, clothes, and food. Even if it’s not market day, Dong Van’s early morning atmosphere is something to soak in with a hot coffee before the ride.
Soon, you're back on the road with your Easy Rider, heading deeper into the rugged north. You’ll ride toward the Ma Pi Leng Pass, the most iconic stretch of the Ha Giang Loop by motorbike. There’s no way to oversell this—massive cliffs, winding roads, and views down into the abyss of the Nho Que River canyon. You’ll stop multiple times for jaw-dropping photo ops; your guide knows where to pull over for the best angles without the crowds.
Ready to stretch your legs? From the top of Ma Pi Leng, you’ll have the option to walk the Sky Path, a narrow ridge trail that gives you an even wilder perspective on the gorge below. It’s a short hike, but the views are massive—perfect for photos or just standing still and taking it all in.
Later, cruise down toward Meo Vac, winding past cliffside roads and quiet villages where water buffaloes roam freely and kids wave as you pass. Depending on timing and weather, your guide might suggest a detour down to the Nho Que River for a boat ride—an incredible add-on if you’re up for it.
You’ll finish the day at a mountain lodge near Meo Vac, surrounded by rice fields and limestone peaks. After a full day on the bike, dinner hits differently—especially with a view. Time to rest up before the final stretch of the loop tomorrow.
Wake up to the sound of village life and mountain air—you’ve got one more epic day of riding ahead. After breakfast, hop back on the motorbike with your Easy Rider and head into the final stretch of the loop. Today’s route takes you through some of Ha Giang’s most peaceful and scenic regions.
You’ll pass through Mau Due, a valley dotted with traditional homes and terraced rice fields that shift colors with the seasons. It’s quieter out here—fewer tourists, more locals going about their day. Further along, stop at the Lung Ho viewpoint, where layers of conical limestone peaks stretch across the horizon. This is one of those spots that feels untouched, and it’s a favorite photo stop for many riders.
As you ride back toward Ha Giang, you’ll visit Lung Tam village, known for its handmade hemp textiles. It’s a cool chance to see how traditional fabrics are still woven, dyed, and dried by the local Hmong women using centuries-old techniques.
After that, it’s the final leg through Quan Ba, with a stop to admire the strange beauty of the Fairy Mountains—two rounded hills set in the middle of a lush valley. One more ride through Sky Gate and a descent via Bac Sum Pass, and you’ll roll back into Ha Giang City in the late afternoon.
Your Ha Giang Loop tour by Easy Rider ends here, but the memories (and probably hundreds of photos) will stick around long after the ride is over.
- Your safety is our top priority. The roads along the loop are now mostly well paved, with guard rails in higher areas. Our Easy Rider drivers are highly experienced locals, some of whom ride these roads daily and know every curve. They drive at a relaxed pace to ensure you're comfortable and safe. If you're nervous, let your driver know—they’ll adjust their riding style to suit you.
- The tour runs in all weather conditions. In case of rain, your driver is prepared with rain gear, and the ride continues unless weather conditions become unsafe—which is very rare. In case of extreme weather (like a typhoon), the tour may be postponed or canceled with a full refund, but such events are uncommon in Ha Giang.
- Each motorbike has a luggage rack on the back, and it’s no problem to carry a backpack or even a small suitcase. If you're traveling with very large or bulky bags, we recommend leaving them at our Ha Giang office or at your hotel in Hanoi.
- The Ha Giang Loop by Easy Rider is a great adventure year-round. The most pleasant weather is usually in spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the skies are clearer and temperatures are ideal for riding. Winter can be chilly in the mountains, but it's often dry and peaceful—just pack warm layers. In summer, expect occasional bursts of rain, usually in the late afternoon, but there’s still plenty of sun, and the tour often starts earlier to make the most of the day.
- We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-specific meal requests. Just let us know when you book so we can make the right arrangements in advance.
- Wear a lightweight, wind- and rain-resistant jacket, with layers underneath so you can adjust to changing mountain temperatures. Even in warmer months, the high passes can feel cool. Closed shoes and long pants are also recommended for riding comfort.
- Bring your passport, sunglasses, sunscreen, light gloves, mosquito repellent, personal medication, power bank, camera, and a phone with internet access. In cooler months (Nov–Mar), also pack warm layers, a scarf or mask, and moisturizing skin products. Carry around 1,000,000–1,500,000 VND per person in cash for personal expenses and extras.

Only if you have a valid motorbike license and an International Driving Permit that’s legally accepted in Vietnam. If you don’t, self-driving is not recommended—it’s illegal and unsafe, especially on Ha Giang’s challenging mountain roads. The Easy Rider option is a great alternative that gives you the same road experience without the risk.
Self-driving is only available for travelers with a valid motorbike license and an International Driving Permit (IDP). Riding without the proper license is illegal in Vietnam, even if some rental shops overlook it. More importantly, Ha Giang's mountain roads are not suited for beginners—they’re steep, winding, and remote. With an Easy Rider, you get the same thrill of the open road, but with the safety of an experienced local driver who knows every curve.
It depends on your travel style. The Easy Rider tour is for those who want to feel the wind, ride through the landscapes, and enjoy a more immersive, adventurous experience. The car or jeep tour offers more comfort and weather protection—ideal for families or travelers who prefer a more relaxed pace. Both cover the same stunning route with equally great views.
Yes, absolutely. Our Easy Rider drivers are highly experienced, local to the region, and trained to ride at a pace that’s both safe and scenic. The roads are mostly paved and well maintained, with guard rails on higher sections. If you ever feel uncomfortable, just let your driver know—they’re happy to adjust to your comfort level.
Each motorbike has a luggage rack, and most travelers bring a backpack or small suitcase without issues. If you have bulky or extra luggage, we recommend leaving it at our Ha Giang office or your hotel in Hanoi for safekeeping during the trip.
We carefully select accommodations based on quality, location, and guest feedback. However, if you have specific preferences or need certain facilities, just let us know in advance—we’ll do our best to customize the stay for you.
The tour includes all meals during the loop, with a mix of local Vietnamese dishes. Vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-friendly options can be arranged—please inform us ahead of time so we can prepare accordingly.
The tour runs in all weather. Rain gear is provided, and your driver is used to riding safely in wet conditions. If it’s a heavy shower, we might take a short break until it passes. Rain can even add to the adventure—misty mountain views are incredibly atmospheric.
Yes. The rainy season (mostly summer) brings occasional downpours, often in the late afternoon, but it rarely rains all day. We adjust our riding schedule to avoid the heaviest showers when possible, and there’s still plenty of sunshine and incredible scenery during this time.
