Getting to Ha Giang

Option 1: Homestay package + 1 day [Most recommended]

Depart from Hanoi in the early morning the day before you want to start the Ha Giang loop (Day 0). Transfer from your hotel in Hanoi to Ha Giang by luxury limousine minibus.

Arrive in the afternoon in Ha Giang. Stay in a local authentic minority village just outside town. You have the afternoon to explore the beautiful village, including rice fields around. The village belongs to the Thai minority, who live in houses on stilts. You will spend the night in a homestay in this village where you will be picked up the next day to start the Ha Giang loop tour.

Option 2: VIP Limousine Sleeper Bus

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter (8:00–8:30 PM) and travel overnight in a VIP sleeper limousine bus, which offers extra-wide seats and added comfort compared to standard sleeper buses. You’ll arrive around 3:00 AM and check into a private room at a hotel in Ha Giang City for a rest before your tour.

Option 3: Custom Travel Arrangements

Itinerary

Morning :

Your Ha Giang motorbike tour kicks off with a scenic ride straight into the highlands. As your motorbike weaves through the early curves of the Dong Van Karst Plateau, you’ll quickly feel the thrill of being deep in Vietnam’s frontier region.

First up is the dramatic Quan Ba Pass, leading to panoramic viewpoints and the famous Twin Mountains—a geological oddity wrapped in local legend. As you ride further, the roads wind through isolated valleys and small ethnic villages that dot the landscape.

Afternoon :

After lunch in a local restaurant, your motorbike climbs higher into the mountains. The road passes through Tham Ma and Chin Khoanh, two classic mountain passes known for their switchbacks and cliffside views. In Sung La Valley, the landscape opens up to terraced fields and timeless Hmong villages.

A cultural highlight of the day is a stop at the Hmong King's Palace in Xa Phin. This fortress-style home once belonged to a powerful local leader and offers a unique look into Hmong heritage.

By late afternoon, you’ll reach Dong Van, a quiet mountain town where you’ll rest up for the next leg of your ride. Wander through the Old Quarter or enjoy a peaceful dinner overlooking the valley.

Morning :

If today is Sunday, you’ll have a chance to visit the lively Dong Van Market, one of the best ways to experience ethnic diversity in action. Different minority groups travel for hours to trade goods, livestock, and textiles in this colorful gathering.

After breakfast, continue your Ha Giang motorbike tour north toward Lung Cu, the symbolic “roof of Vietnam.” A climb up the Lung Cu Flag Tower gives you stunning views across both Vietnam and China—a true “top of the country” moment.

Afternoon :

Then comes a real highlight: the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass. Riding this stretch by motorbike is an experience like no other. The road snakes along sheer cliffs, with the Nho Que River winding far below. You’ll have time to stop for photos or take a short hike on the Sky Path, which follows the ridgeline with jaw-dropping views.

By late afternoon, you’ll descend into Meo Vac, a rugged town surrounded by steep limestone mountains. This is your base for the night.

Morning :

Start the day early with another chance to catch a Sunday market, this time in Meo Vac, known for its size and variety of ethnic groups.

Today’s route takes you on some of the loop’s quieter, more untouched stretches—ideal for a motorbike tour. You’ll pass through remote highland villages, climb misty mountain passes, and eventually descend into the greener, rice-field-filled valley of Du Gia.

Afternoon :

This area has a different feel—lush, peaceful, and far removed from the tourist trail. After arriving, check in with a local host and head out for a short hike through the countryside to reach a hidden waterfall, perfect for a refreshing swim if the weather is right.

Spend the evening in Du Gia, where life slows down and the scenery speaks for itself.

Morning :

Your final ride begins with a peaceful morning in the valley, then winds through the hills to Lung Tam, a small Hmong village known for its traditional textile production. Here, you’ll see how local women handcraft intricate items using hemp and natural dyes. It’s a great place to pick up a meaningful, handmade souvenir.

Continue toward Quan Ba, where the unique Fairy Mountains (Núi Đôi) rise like a pair of soft domes from the valley floor. From here, descend through Sky Gate and down the serpentine Bac Sum Pass—one last exhilarating ride before you return to Ha Giang.

Afternoon :

After arriving back in the city in the early afternoon, you’ll have time to freshen up and grab a bite to eat before boarding the Comfort Limousine Bus back to Hanoi.

4:00 PM (16:00) :
Depart Ha Giang

  • Safety is a priority. You’ll ride on the back of a motorbike (Easy Rider style) with a highly experienced local driver. The roads are mostly paved and in good condition, with guard rails along higher passes. Our riders drive carefully, at a steady pace, and are happy to adjust based on your comfort level. Helmets are provided and required.
  • This tour operates in all weather conditions. Rain gear is provided for you and your driver, and light rain won’t stop the tour. In case of severe weather (very rare), the tour may be delayed or canceled with a full refund. Riding in mist or light rain can be part of the adventure—but we always prioritize safety.
  • This Ha Giang by motorbike tour can be done year-round. The most pleasant riding weather is in spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), with clear skies and cooler temperatures. Winter is dry and quiet, with crisp mountain air—just bring warm layers. Summer brings lush green landscapes and occasional afternoon rain, but mornings are often sunny, and the tour adjusts departure times to make the most of the day.
  • Each motorbike is equipped with a rear luggage rack. Most travelers bring a backpack or small suitcase, which fits without issue. Large or bulky luggage should be left at our Ha Giang office or your hotel in Hanoi before the tour begins.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and closed shoes suitable for riding. A light windproof/rainproof jacket is essential, especially for higher altitudes. Dress in layers, as temperatures can vary throughout the day—especially in the mountains during winter. A scarf or face covering can help with wind and dust.
  • All meals are included during the loop, typically served at homestays or local eateries. We can cater to vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-specific diets—just let us know in advance when booking.
  • Pack your passport, sunglasses, sunscreen, scarf or mask, personal medication, power bank, phone with internet access, and a camera. In cooler months, also bring gloves, warm layers, and skin-care products for wind or dry air. Carry 1,000,000–1,500,000 VND per person in cash for snacks, drinks, or personal purchases.

FAQ

Do I drive the motorbike myself?

No, this is an Easy Rider-style motorbike tour, which means you’ll ride on the back of a motorbike driven by an experienced local guide. This is the safest and most comfortable way to enjoy the Ha Giang Loop, especially if you’re unfamiliar with Vietnam’s mountain roads.

Can I drive the motorbike myself if I have a license?

Self-driving is only possible for travelers with a valid motorbike license AND an International Driving Permit (IDP) that is legally recognized in Vietnam. If you do not meet both requirements, we strongly recommend booking the Easy Rider format. Riding without proper licensing is illegal and unsafe on Ha Giang’s steep and remote roads.

How safe is this motorbike tour?

The tour is very safe. Our drivers are highly experienced locals who ride these roads daily. They follow a calm, steady pace and prioritize your comfort and safety. Roads are mostly paved and well-maintained, with guard rails on the steeper passes. Helmets are always provided.

What happens if it rains during the tour?

The tour runs in light to moderate rain, and rain ponchos are provided. In most cases, rain is short and passes quickly. Your driver will adjust the pace for safety and comfort. In case of severe weather (which is rare), the tour may be postponed or canceled with a full refund.

What should I do with my luggage?

Each motorbike is equipped with a luggage rack. You can bring a backpack or small suitcase without issue. For larger bags, we recommend storing them at our Ha Giang office or leaving them at your hotel in Hanoi.

Is this tour physically demanding?

You don’t need to ride or operate the bike yourself, so no prior motorbiking experience or physical training is needed. However, be prepared to sit for long periods on the bike and for some short hikes along the way.

Can I request specific accommodations?

We work with a network of trusted homestays and hotels selected based on location, comfort, and guest feedback. If you have specific needs or preferences, let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.

What kind of food is included?

All meals during the tour are included. You’ll enjoy a variety of local Vietnamese dishes, served at family-run homestays or local restaurants. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-specific requests—please inform us when booking.

What makes this different from the car or jeep tour?

The motorbike tour is more immersive and adventurous—you’ll feel the terrain, smell the mountain air, and have direct contact with the environment. The car/jeep tour offers more comfort and is better suited for those who prefer enclosed travel or are with family. Both options follow similar routes and highlights.

What’s the difference between the 3-day and 4-day motorbike tour?

The 3-day motorbike tour covers all the main highlights of the Ha Giang Loop, including Ma Pi Leng Pass, Dong Van, and local minority villages. The 4-day tour follows a larger loop, with more time to explore remote areas like Du Gia and extra flexibility for photo stops, hikes, or local interactions. If you're short on time, 3 days is a great introduction—but 4 days gives you a deeper, more off-the-beaten-path experience.
