Itinerary

Travel from Hanoi (or Ha Giang) by bus to the Tan Quang area, where your private driver will be waiting. From here, it’s a scenic ride up to the quiet mountain community of Thong Nguyen.

Arrive at Ta Quyen Homestay and settle into your wooden bungalow surrounded by lush green hills. Later in the day, take a short walk around Nam Hong village — a Red Dao settlement known for its traditional stilt houses and terraced fields.

Lunch

Enjoy a warm, home-cooked dinner with your hosts and other travelers. It’s a chance to get a first taste of local food and culture in this peaceful mountain setting.

Dinner

After breakfast, lace up your hiking shoes for a full day of trekking (approx. 18 km). The route winds through terraced rice paddies, bamboo forests, and remote Red Dao and Tay villages.

Breakfast

Stop in one of the hill tribe villages for a traditional lunch prepared by your Red Dao hosts. This is a great chance to learn about daily life and local customs firsthand.

Lunch

Hike deeper into the valley with more panoramic views and untouched nature along the way. You’ll arrive in the quiet village of Nam Son by late afternoon and check in to another local homestay.

Enjoy another home-cooked meal and relax after a full day on the trail.

Dinner

After breakfast, take a gentle morning walk to visit another Dao community and observe traditional rural life. If you're visiting during harvest season, the golden terraced fields are especially stunning.

Breakfast

Enjoy a final local lunch before heading back to Tan Quang, where you’ll board the afternoon bus (around 4:30 PM) for the return journey to Hanoi or your next destination.

  • This tour involves moderate trekking with some uneven and hilly terrain. It’s suitable for active travelers with a basic level of fitness. If you have concerns, let us know—we can adjust the pace or route where needed.
  • This tour is all year round, but the best time is September to early October during the rice harvest season when the terraces turn golden. Spring (March–May) is also lush and scenic.
  • No trekking experience is needed. The tour is designed for travelers who enjoy nature and walking, and the guide will adjust the pace to suit the group.

  • Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and a power bank. A light jacket is useful in the evenings, especially in higher villages.

The main trekking day covers about 18 km through hilly terrain and terraced rice fields. It’s a moderate-level hike, suitable for travelers in reasonably good shape. The pace is flexible, and breaks are included along the way.

What happens if it rains during the trek?

ight rain is not a problem — we recommend bringing a waterproof jacket. In case of heavy or dangerous weather, the route may be adjusted for safety, or an alternative activity arranged.

What happens if I can’t finish the full 18 km trek?

If needed, the guide can adjust the pace or shorten the route slightly. In more serious cases, alternative transport may be arranged (subject to availability and local conditions).
