Night train to Sapa (Dream Train Express)
Begin your Sapa adventure with the overnight Dream Train Express, where comfort meets charm on the rails. Step into a cozy cabin with plush beds, wooden accents, and warm lighting that creates a peaceful atmosphere as the train gently rocks you to sleep. As the city fades into the night, you’ll journey through quiet countryside and misty valleys under the stars. By morning, you’ll arrive in Lao Cai feeling refreshed and ready to explore the majestic mountains of northern Vietnam.
Your train arrives early at Lao Cai Station, where a minivan will transfer you to Sapa town. You’ll have access to shower facilities and luggage storage before enjoying a local breakfast to get ready for your trek.
You’ll begin your Sapa homestay trekking tour through the scenic Muong Hoa Valley. You can choose between two trekking routes:
- Option 1: Classic trek (Lao Chai – Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai)
This route passes through villages of the Black H’mong, Zay, and Red Dao ethnic groups. You’ll walk along quiet roads, forest trails, and terraced rice fields, with plenty of chances to meet local people. - Option 2: Off-the-beaten-track trek (Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Su Pan – Ban Ho)
A more remote option for those wanting to go deeper into the valley. You’ll visit lesser-visited villages and enjoy more untouched scenery, while still meeting ethnic communities along the way.
Depending on your route, you’ll spend the night in either a Zay or Tay minority village. Expect simple but cozy accommodation, shared meals, and a peaceful rural atmosphere.
Perched on the hillsides of Sapa, this cozy homestay offers panoramic views of misty mountains, terraced rice fields, and winding village trails. Guests stay in charming wooden rooms that combine ethnic minority architecture with warm, modern comfort. Wake up to cool mountain air and a freshly cooked breakfast made with local ingredients, all while soaking in the quiet rhythm of village life. It's the perfect base for trekking, cultural immersion, and unwinding amid the breathtaking beauty of northern Vietnam.
You’ll be picked up and driven back to Sapa town. After some time to freshen up, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in a comfortable hotel in town like Maison de Sapa. The exact hotel depends on availability but will offer a restful end to your trekking experience.
Maison de Sapa
It is a cozy hillside retreat offering a peaceful escape just outside the main bustle of town. Rooms are spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed, many with private balconies overlooking the valley. With warm hospitality, delicious daily breakfast, and support for local bookings and transport, it’s an ideal base for a relaxing stay in Sapa.
After breakfast, head out by jeep, motorbike, or minivan to explore the area around Sapa. First stop is Silver Waterfall, especially beautiful during the rainy season. Then, drive up to Tram Ton Pass, Vietnam’s highest mountain pass. From here, you’ll get sweeping views over the valleys toward Binh Lu and Lai Chau.
After dinner, transfer to the station for your overnight Dream Train Express journey back to Hanoi. The train departs in the evening and arrives in Hanoi the next morning, marking the end of your Sapa trekking adventure.
The overnight journey aboard the Dream Train Express offers a comfortable and charming return to Hanoi after your mountain adventures. Relax in a private sleeper cabin with soft bedding, warm lighting, and classic wooden interiors that evoke the romance of slow travel. As the train quietly winds through the darkened hills, you’ll drift off to sleep to the rhythmic sounds of the rails. Arriving in Hanoi in early morning, well-rested and refreshed, it’s the perfect way to transition from Sapa’s highland calm to the capital’s vibrant energy.
