Itinerary

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred by car from Tram Tau town to Ban Cong commune, located about 7 km from the center. From there, hop on a motorbike for a short but bumpy ride along a muddy trail to reach the starting point of the trek. At the porter’s house, your local team will pack supplies and get you ready to begin the hike.

The trail starts off steep and slippery, especially after rain, with a long, muddy slope that can be quite a challenge. After about 3.5 km, you’ll reach a unique rock formation known as Turtle Head Rock, perched dramatically above the forest. It’s a great spot to pause and catch your breath.

If you’re up for it, tackle the most thrilling part of the day: the narrow and exposed ridge known as the Dinosaur Backbone. It’s a dramatic stretch with steep drop-offs and stunning panoramic views — one of the main highlights of the Ta Xua trekking tour.

After completing about 7 km of trekking (roughly 6 hours), you’ll arrive at a simple mountain hut where you’ll spend the night. It’s basic, but there’s a cozy atmosphere in the middle of the forest. Your porter will cook dinner while you relax, enjoy the jungle silence, and rest up for the big climb tomorrow.

Breakfast, Lunch

Rise early in the dark for breakfast and gear up for a long but rewarding day. You’ll leave most gear at the hut and carry only essentials for the summit push.

Start your hike through a mysterious forest of towering old trees draped in moss and fog. The path winds uphill and feels like something out of a fairytale — one of the most unique parts of the Ta Xua mountain.

Late Morning :
Reach Ta Xua Peak

After around 2.5 to 3 hours, you’ll stand on the summit of Ta Xua Peak. Celebrate with photos, take in the 360° views (if clouds allow), and enjoy the moment. This is the highest point of the trek and a true reward for the effort.

Head back down the same trail, returning to the second hut where lunch will be ready. After a break, pack up and begin your descent back to the village.

Cross the Dinosaur Backbone again, then follow the same route back to the starting point. You’ll reach the village between 4:00 and 5:00 PM. For those who prefer to save time or energy, motorbike taxis are available for the final stretch (approx. 250,000 VND/person).

Once back in Tram Tau, you can either rest overnight at a local homestay or continue directly to Hanoi — depending on your preference and energy levels.

  • Overnight stay in a wooden mountain hut
  • English-speaking guide and porter (1 porter per 3 guests)
  • Motorbike transfer from Tram Tau town to starting point
  • All meals during the trek (1 breakfast, 2 lunches, 1 dinner)
  • Drinking water (1 liter/day/person, refills available)
  • Ginger tea and coffee
  • Medal, hat, and gloves for the trek
  • Optional support for arranging stays before/after the trek
  • Personal expenses, tips, and gratuities
  • Clothing, footwear, and rain gear
  • Extra drinks (outside of included water/tea/coffee)
  • International travel insurance
  • The total trekking distance is approximately 23 km over two days, with a mix of steep climbs, narrow ridges, and forest trails.
  • This tour is considered challenging due to steep, muddy paths and long hiking hours. If you have concerns about fitness or trail conditions, let us know — we can adjust the experience to your needs.
  • The Ta Xua trekking tour is best from October to April, when the skies are clearer and trails are more manageable. Cloud-hunting is especially popular in winter months.
  • No prior trekking experience is required, but you should be in good physical condition and comfortable with long hikes and uneven terrain.
  • Wear sturdy hiking shoes with good grip, long pants, and breathable layers. Bring a rain jacket, especially during the wetter months.
  • Our experienced guides and porters are trained in first aid and trail safety. Basic camping and cooking gear is provided. Motorbike support is available on certain sections if needed.
  • There is no internet during the trek. For emergency contact and navigation, we recommend getting a Vietnamese SIM card with coverage in the region.
  • Large suitcases should be left at your Hanoi hotel or in Tram Tau. Bring only essentials in a small backpack — porters will assist with supplies and gear.
  • We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-specific meals. Please inform us in advance so we can prepare accordingly.
  • You’ll enjoy simple but hearty local meals prepared by our porter team — expect rice, local vegetables, eggs, and stir-fried dishes, with hot tea provided.
  • Camping equipment (tent or hut stay), cooking gear, and basic supplies are included. You’ll need to carry your own personal items and water.
  • The tour runs in most weather conditions. Trails can be slippery after rain, so a waterproof jacket and extra socks are recommended.
  • Pack sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, flashlight, quick-dry clothing, and a power bank.
  • You’ll stay overnight in a simple mountain hut surrounded by nature. It’s basic but dry, clean, and suitable for resting after a long hike.
  • This tour is available year-round and can start on any day with advance booking. Let us know your preferred dates — we’ll handle the rest.

FAQ

How physically demanding is the Ta Xua trekking tour?

The trek is considered challenging due to steep slopes, muddy trails, and long hiking days (up to 8–9 hours). You don’t need technical skills, but good fitness and some hiking experience will help. If you’re unsure, we can discuss how to adjust the pace or offer support options.

What happens if it rains during the trek?

The tour operates in most weather conditions, including light rain. Trails can get slippery, so sturdy shoes and a waterproof jacket are essential. In case of severe weather, we’ll evaluate the situation and may adjust the route or delay the trip.

What is the sleeping arrangement like on the tour?
