About Da Nang Airport
The official name is Da Nang International Airport (DAD). It’s Vietnam’s third-busiest airport, after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and the main gateway to central Vietnam — especially for travelers heading to Da Nang, Hoi An, or even Hue.
Da Nang Airport has two terminals: T1 for domestic flights and T2 for international. Both terminals are located right next to each other, and the entire airport is compact, making it easy to get around even if it’s your first time flying in Vietnam.
The airport is only about 2–4 km from the city center, which means transfers are quick — usually 15 minutes or less to most hotels in Da Nang. It’s also the most convenient airport for travelers heading to Hoi An (about a 45-minute drive), and many people choose to fly into Da Nang even if they’re not staying in the city.
Location of Da Nang Airport
Da Nang International Airport is located almost right in the city center, making it one of the most accessible airports in Vietnam. It’s just a short drive to most major areas in and around Da Nang, and even within reach of Hoi An.
Here’s an overview of typical travel times and distances:
- Han River area (city center): 2.5–4 km, around 8–14 minutes
- An Thuong / My Khe Beach (main beach area): 5–7 km, about 15 minutes
- Son Tra neighborhood (north beachside): 7–9 km, roughly 20–25 minutes
- Non Nuoc Beach / Resort zone (south): 8–16 km, about 15–30 minutes, depending on where you stay
- Hoi An Old Town: 28 km, around 50 minutes
- An Bang Beach (Hoi An): 25 km, roughly 45 minutes
- Cua Dai Beach (Hoi An): 30 km, about 50 minutes
How to Get To (and From) Da Nang Airport
Transport to and from Da Nang Airport is straightforward — the airport is close to most major areas. Still, it’s smart to plan ahead, especially if you have an early flight or arrive during busy hours. Here are the best options:
Taxi
Taxis are readily available right outside both terminals. You can either go to the fixed-rate taxi counters inside the terminal or use a regular metered taxi like Mai Linh or Vinasun.
Expect to pay between 80,000–150,000 VND, depending on where you’re going in the city. Make sure the meter is on if you’re not using the fixed-rate service.
Ride-hailing Apps (Grab, Be, Xanh SM)
Grab, Be, and the new electric taxis from Xanh SM are very popular in Da Nang and are often cheaper than regular taxis. You’ll see the price upfront in the app, and you can pay with cash or card.
- Pick-up: Once you exit the terminal, walk past the main taxi lanes toward the parking area across the street. Ride-hailing cars can’t stop right in front of the terminal — the app will show the pickup spot.
- Drop-off: They can drop you right at the entrance.
- Airport fee: A small airport entrance fee (~10,000 VND) is usually added to the fare automatically.
Other options
You can also book a private car in advance, which is especially useful if you’re heading to Hoi An. For longer transfers, this is often cheaper than a taxi or Grab, and the driver will wait for you at arrivals with a sign.
Some hotels in Da Nang and Hoi An also offer free airport pick-up or drop-off — check when booking.
Is it worth staying close to the Airport?
In most cases — no. There’s really no need to stay near Da Nang Airport. It’s already so close to the city center and beach areas that even an early flight doesn’t require an airport hotel.
From popular tourist areas like An Thuong or My Khe Beach, it’s only a 15-minute drive, and a ride with Grab or Xanh SM usually costs around 2–4 USD — even late at night or early in the morning. Rides are easy to book and reliable at all hours.
Hotels near the airport are mostly basic, business-style places, and there are very few good options within walking distance. In fact, it often takes longer to walk from a nearby hotel than to just ride from further out by car.
Only consider staying nearby if you have a super short stopover or land in the middle of the night and don’t want to go far — but even then, the city is close enough to make it unnecessary.
Domestic flight connections from Da Nang
Da Nang is very well connected to major cities across Vietnam — not quite as extensive as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, but still with plenty of options.
There are many daily flights to:
- Hanoi – About 1.5 hours, Vietnam’s capital in the north
- Ho Chi Minh City – Also around 1.5 hours, the country’s largest and busiest city
There are also direct flights (some not daily) to:
- Can Tho – Main city in the Mekong Delta, known for floating markets
- Phu Quoc – Vietnam’s largest island, popular for beach holidays
- Nha Trang (Cam Ranh Airport) – A coastal resort city known for diving and long beaches
- Da Lat (Lien Khuong Airport) – A mountain town known for cool weather and pine forests
- Buon Ma Thuot – Less touristy highland city, coffee-growing region
- Hai Phong – Port city near Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island
For these routes, flights may only run a few times per week, depending on the season and airline. If you don’t see availability on your preferred date, try checking other days.
Da Nang’s domestic routes are served by Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel Airlines.

FAQ – Da Nang Airport
How early should I arrive before my flight?
For domestic flights, 1.5 – 2 hours is usually enough — especially if you don’t have checked luggage or already have your boarding pass.
For international flights, 2 – 3 hours is generally fine. Da Nang is less chaotic than Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, but during peak holiday periods, it’s smart to arrive a little earlier.
Tip: Always follow your airline’s recommendation, especially if you’re flying with checked bags or during high season.
Is fast track or VIP service needed?
In most cases, no. Security and immigration usually move quickly.
However, if you have a tight connection, especially from an international flight to a domestic one, or if you just want a smoother experience, fast track might be worth it.
Can I leave my luggage at Da Nang Airport?
Yes. There’s a luggage storage service at Terminal 2 (international) on the ground floor near arrivals.
Note: No luggage storage in Terminal 1 (domestic).
Can I change money at the airport?
Yes, both terminals have currency exchange counters. The rates aren’t the best, but it’s convenient if you need some cash quickly on arrival.
Can I buy a SIM card at the airport?
Yes. You can get SIM cards from Viettel, Mobifone, and Vinaphone counters in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Prices are reasonable, and staff can help you set it up.
How do I transfer between terminals?
Da Nang Airport has two separate terminals:
– Terminal 1 (T1): Domestic flights
– Terminal 2 (T2): International flights
They’re right next to each other — about 2–3 minutes walking distance.
Just exit one terminal and follow the clearly marked signs outside to the other.
If you’re connecting between two international flights, go to the Transfer Counter in T2. Staff at the arrivals area can guide you.
Is there free Wi-Fi?
Yes, both terminals offer free Wi-Fi. The signal is usually decent, and no password is needed — just connect and follow the prompts.
Are there places to eat before security?
There are a few cafés and snack shops outside security, but options are limited. If you want a full meal, eat before heading to the airport. Most food is inside the terminal after check-in.
